Updating my CV
I’ve decided it’s time to change my CV as I have done work that should be mentioned since it was last updated. Apart from altering the information I want to give it a totally new look because I have researched into CV design and it’s becoming a standard thing for a designer to have a stylistic and unique CV.
Here’s a website that has been really useful to me in thinking about designs:
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/04/01/10-handy-tips-for-web-design-cvs-and-resumes/
I’d like the CV to display a bit of my own personal style, so I have brainstormed the things that I think sum up my work:
I then wrote down all of the things that I think are essential to include which are:
Next I tried to come up with some creative design ideas. My favourites were:
- A hand drawn tree and hanging off (or sitting on) the branches are each section of the CV
- A hand holding a sketchbook with printed text on
- A simple design but with one of my paintings as the header or in the background
- Text surrounded by a flock of birds in different colours
Eventually I thought I didn’t want to make it too over the top so I went for the idea of the hand held sketchbook. I used Photoshop and Illustrator to produce it and I almost wanted to leave it as just the sketchpad but then I tried adding in things to give it some extra interestingness/personality…
I think I prefer the ones with a bit of colour so I have decided on this one below as a final:

I was looking over your website and to be honest you have way to many things going on; website design; animation, etc. The negative outcome of this is that I’m not sure where your real talent is at, I know as an artist it is good to have the ability to do many different things; however, if this is for career purpose, it will be difficult for anyone to hire you. Secondly, truthfully speaking, I wanted to leave the site straight off the bat, it is super busy. As for your VC, make sure you specify what you do in Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. I can say. “I know how to use Photoshop since I know how to draw a line on it.” Do you see what I mean? If you do like to do all these things I suggest you making 2 or 3 websites, 1 for Photography, 2 for Design, 3 for Artist.

But I guess in the end, it is a blog.

Hi Bob, thanks for your comment. Ah yes well this isn’t my website or anything, it’s actually where my university work gets marked – so I have to put everything up here and the reason there is so much is because in the first two years of my degree we were given many different briefs, covering loads of areas so that people could learn and discover what they enjoyed the most and wanted to specialise in. On my final year blog I have decide to specialise in more particular areas such as documentary film making. The web address is ginatrattbadmp.wordpress.com if you’re interested. Thank you for the advice though I will keep it in mind!
